UPDATE: Man Who Fled I-78 Crash Taken Into Custody

State and Bedminster police, and SWAT team members, were involved in the search.

A 29-year-old man was taken into custody peacefully Wednesday morning after fleeing the scene of an accident on Interstate 78, Bedminster Township Police Chief Pat Ussery said.

The man, Ussery said, was taken into custody around 8:50 a.m. at the Trump National Golf Club on Lamington Road in Bedminster.

Police were conducting a SWAT team search in the area of Trump National Golf Club for the man who had fled the scene of an accident on Interstate 78 around 4 a.m.

According to NJ State Police Sgt. Adam Grossman, the man was involved in a motor vehicle accident, and fled the area.

The search was being conducted near the club around 8 a.m., but Grossman said it is unknown whether the individual was carrying a weapon, as indicated in unconfirmed reports.

State police did not have additional information on the actual motor vehicle accident.

Grossman said it is still unknown whether this is related to an incident reported overnight in Readington Township concerning a man with a weapon.
