Warren Renews Call for Emergency Registry Signups

Warren Township encouraging special needs residents to join state database for emergency responders.

Warren Township is partnering with the state's to compile a database of all residents with special needs accessible to police and first responders in the event of an emergency, Mayor Carolann Garafola and members of the Warren announced. The service is offered to state residents at no charge.

The Register Ready database is operated by the State of New Jersey State and allows residents with special needs to sign up for the free, voluntary and confidential program identifying those who may need assistance during a disaster. Through the database, Warren Township emergency responders would know which residents have special needs, what those needs are, and where they reside.

Township officials first announced the plan in January, noting some residents who struggled after the power outages and problems caused by and the may have been helped had the system been in plce at the time.

“This is an important component to implement an emergency response with residents with special needs,” Mayor Garafola said. “This confidential information will be shared only with local and regional response personnel so they can be prepared for the number of special needs residents who may need help, and to access the kind of assistance which might be necessary.” 

Individuals, or family members or neighbors of someone who would have difficulty meeting their needs during a serious emergency such as evacuation from their residence, are encouraged to sign up with Register Ready. The Warren Township Register Ready program is under the supervision of the Warren Township Office of Emergency Management and Coordinator Jane Asch.

“Warren Township wants to be prepared to help all of its residents, particularly those with special needs,” Asch said. “Please help us to help you during a disaster by registering now.”

To register, check the Register Ready website.  and librarians are also available to help registrations. This service will register people, offer free translation, and provide TTY services for the hearing impaired.

Paper registration forms are also available at the Township Clerk’s office, by calling Patricia DiRocco at 908-753-8000, ext. 221, or by writing to Warren Township Municipal Building, 46 Mountain Blvd., Warren, N.J. 07059.

Register Ready has multiple layers of security—access to information in the database is restricted and monitored. The personal information uploaded to Register Ready is kept strictly confidential, and used only for emergency planning and response purposes.
