Boil Water Advisory Issued After Service Knocked Out to 1,000 Customers

Residents in the area of Valley Road between Church Street and Mount Airy Road should boil water for 48 hours.

As of early Sunday afternoon, New Jersey American Water Co. had isolated the source of a leak in a water main on Valley Road, and was working on repairing the problem, said Bernards Township Emergency Management Coordinator Mike Shimsky.

Most residents were expected to come back online after the repair, he said.

Boil water advisory to be issued

Once fully restored, North Jersey American Water Co. plans to issue a 48 hour boil water advisory for customers in the vicinity of Valley Road between Church St. and Mount Airy Road, he said.

The water service disruption — affecting about 1,000 customers with reports coming in everywhere from homes on Lake Road to the Somerset Hills YMCA on Martinsville Road further south — was reported by the water company at about 7:30 a.m. However, other customers reported the disruption even earlier.

Later on Sunday morning, at about 10 a.m., New Jersey American Water Company reported the water main breakage near the center Liberty Corner. The break occurred on Valley Road, near the English farm, according to one township report. The water company predicted then that service would be restored with four to five hours.

The approximately 1,000 customers in Bernards Township have been without water, or who have very little water pressure, according to information from the water company. The rupture was located and crews have been on scene assessing the damage, according to the release from the water company.
