Courts Dedicated in Memory of Youth Hoops Leader

Cornerstone of township's basketball program named after Scott Andersen.

With friends and family on hand to share stories of his coaching exploits, Warren Township officially dedicated the refurbished basketball courts at the municipal complex after Scott Andersen, a key figure in the establishment of the Warren Youth Basketball Association.

Speakers including Township Committeeman George Lazo and WYBA Acting President Pierre LeDappier noted Andersen's key skills which helped the township spin off the WYBA from the Recreation Commission to a self-sustaining group.

The courts, which have already gained favor with local players, who crowded onto the courts before and after the dedication ceremony in pickup games. WYBA Coach Greg Riley said he had stopped by the courts Wednesday night, when 20 to 25 players enjoyed games.

The courts were refurbished this spring after the budgeted $60,000 from the Open Space Trust Fund in 2011. A boulder holding the bronze plaque memorializing the courts was donated by S.E. Rose Trucking, of Warren.
