Green Team Completes Helpful Brochures for Residents

Information on radon, pesticides and vehicle idling available.

The Warren Green Team has produced three informational brochures on ways to help the environment as well as being beneficial to your health.  The Anti-Idling and Radon Awareness Brochures are printed and available in the literature section of the municipal building.  All three brochures are available on the Green Team pages of the Warren website and Facebook.com/warrengreenteam.  Limiting pesticide use and cutting down on car idling are also money savers.

Anti-Idling:  Reduce the time your car is burning fuel without going anywhere.

Avoid health problems: Those sitting in the car with their engines running and not moving are particularly susceptible to the harmful effects of car exhaust.  Pollution from car idling has been linked to:  asthma, heart disease, chronic bronchitis, and cancer.  Children and elderly and people with health problems are especially vulnerable to the fumes from car idling both inside and outside the cars.

Car Idling is an additional cost:  You can cut down on fuel costs if you don’t run your car when it is not moving.

Help keep the air in Warren cleaner:  Every gallon of gas used produces 19 pounds of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

The Warren Township Committee passed Resolution No. 2011-188,  “Supporting the Vehicle “No Idling” Policy” on Aug. 18, 2011.

Radon Awareness:  An informational brochure covers the importance of Radon testing.  Limited quantities of Radon Tests are available at the Warren Health Office at 46 Mountain Boulevard in the Warren municipal building for $10.  They can be reached at (908) 753-8000 ext. 239.  The Warren Health office is part of the Middlebrook Health Commission, which has an award winning radon awareness program.  Winter is the perfect time to test your house for radon. These self testing kits take 3 -4 days to complete.  During radon testing all windows and doors must remain closed except when it is necessary to leave and return to your house.  Winter is the best time to test for radon as our windows and doors tend to be closed during the cold months.

Pesticide Reduction:  Lawns and grounds can be efficiently maintained without the use and expense of pesticides.   The Department of Public works maintains Warren Township owned lands without pesticides.   Eliminating pesticide use keeps chemicals out of drinking water.

On Dec. 8, 2011, The Warren Township Committee passed Resolution No. 2011-250, “Supporting “Environmentally Conscious” Grounds and Maintenance Policy” and Resolution No. 2011-251, “Authorizing Pesticide Reduction Policy”
