Irene: Local Roads Still Closed, Power Out in Warren

Cleanup is going slowly.

Many Warren roads and businesses are still closed, due to power outages and fallen trees.

For those venturing out, be prepared for delays and problems getting through town.

As of noon, the following roads were closed:

  • Mountain Boulevard: westbound land at Old Stirling Road to a downed tree and wire.
  • King George Road: South of Washington Valley Road, and between Ferguson Road and Mt. Horeb Road.
  • Liberty Corner Road: South of Mt. Horeb Road.
  • Washington Valley Road: Mixed reports on travel west of Voesseler Road in Bridgewater.
  • Warrenville Road: Closed south of Greenbriar Road.

Jersey Central Power and Light is reporting service has been restored to about 400 Warren customers, with 1,920 still without electricity. PSE&G could not be reached for comment on its efforts to restore power locally, but company officials say restoration may take another five days.

Due to the complicated configuration of power supplies, some areas of Warren's main business district have electricity, while others do not—shops in the Corner Village shopping center, including the Kings grocery store, are open today, as well as businesses in the Gateway East shopping area.

However, the Pheasant Run Shopping Center, with the A&P grocery store, was without power earlier today, as well as the shops at 41 Mountain Blvd.
