Mountain Avenue Closed for Bridge Project

County replacing bridge built in 1927.

Replacement of a bridge on Mountain Avenue is expected to keep traffic detoured from the road until about mid-November, according to Somerset County officials.

The project to replace the bridge over Cory's Brook started today. Cory's Brook is located about 800 feet east of Wagner Farms, and 300 feet west of Saw Mill Road.

According to Somerset County Principal Bridge Engineer Brian Maurer, the older bridge was a foundation that's susceptible to being damaged by surging water levels on the brook, and is in generally poor condition.

Maurer said the new bridge will be 32 feet wide, adding about 6 feet to the old width, and will be faced in natural stone, with blue stone caps.

Work is being done by Jogi Construction, of Edison, which submitted a $788,000 bid for the project, Maurer said.

Trafffic is being detoured to Reinman Road for the duration of the project.
