Power Restored at Municipal Complex

But other areas still in the dark.

About 1,000 residents in neighborhoods near the municipal complex had power restored, benefitting from plans to put a priority on restoring power to the police department following the storm, township officials reported.

While power in the township's central business district appears to coming online,  JCP&L told officials to expect most power to be out until Monday, with "possibly another seven days until everyone is up and running with electricity."

For less fortunate neighbors, the warming center at the courthouse will remain open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Residents can also speak to officials and police at the center. The Stonecrest Community Church shelter is also remaining open.

As electrical service is restored, residents need to be sure to check that electrical appliances and lights are turned off—the surge of power resulting from having too many devices on when power comes on can cause fires.

According to the township, gas supplies are running low because of flooding at Sewaren, the port of entry for fuel. Residents should be prepared to wait in line and to pay cash for any gas. Some electrical service has been restored in Green Brook, which may mean Route 22 gas stations there are able to open, in addition to several that had been operating this week.

If residents believe they've discovered any price gouging by vendors following the storm, they should call the state Division of Consumer Affairs at 862-209-0130 or 973-220-3474.

The township also announced Sunday's planned dedication of the 9/11 Heroes Memorial Monument at the municipal complex has been cancelled. The cermony will be resceduled sometime in the spring.
