Senator Hopes Warren Resolution Helps Traffic Cameras Petition

A bill aiming to end the use of red light cameras to catch drivers running traffic signals in New Jersey may get a boost, thanks to the Warren Township Committee's support.

“While some towns are enamored with the idea that they can use red light cameras to turn their residents into cash cows, it’s clear that others like Warren Township are willing to take a stand for what is right,” Sen. Doherty said. “Citizens across New Jersey should demand that their local elected officials follow the lead of Warren Township and say ‘no’ to red light cameras.”

The resolution approved by the Warren Township Committee states that the township “believes that the use of red light cameras can be dangerous and unreliable, and that such cameras are not effective tools in furthering traffic safety.”

“As we build support for the red light camera repeal effort through petition signatures and resolutions approved by local governments, we increase pressure on the Legislature to put my bill up for a vote,” Sen. Doherty said. “If you want to help get rid of red light cameras that are already active or want to prevent them from showing up in your town, I urge you to sign and share the online petition and demand that your local officials support my legislation.”
