Warren's William Stahl Among Recipients of Governor's Safety Award

Freeholders make presentations at last week's meeting.

Warren resident William Stahl received a plaque from Somerset County Freeholder Director Robert Zaborowski as one of a number of officials representing county offices honored for their exemplary safety records. 

The Governor’s Occupational Safety and Health Awards program recognizes excellence in New Jersey private and public workplace safety performance.

Stahl is the county Public Health and Safety Director. He accepted the plaque on behalf of the 9-1-1 Communications Unit at the Aug. 9 freeholders’ meeting. He was appointed to the position in November, 2010, after supervising the department since 2008. He is a former chief of police for Warren Township, and also serves as the county deputy emergency management coordinator.

For their achievements in 2010, the 83rd year of the program, 12 work groups encompassing a total of 732 Somerset County government employees qualified for awards.

Also among the award recipients at the meeting were Doug Vornlocker, Emergency Services Training Academy; Kevin Walter, Traffic Safety Services; Human Services Director Perry Tchorni, representing the 27 Warren Street facility; Freeholder Director Zaborowski; Human Resources Director Bev Hacker, representing the county Administration Building; Allen Kurdyla, Records Retention; Prosecutor Geoffrey Soriano; Undersheriff Roy Gandolfe, Sheriff’s Office; and Human Resources Safety Officer Paul Malarcher.

Also receiving awards were Soil Conservation, Rutgers Cooperative Extension, Richard Hall Community Mental Health Center, Psychiatric Emergency Screening Service, Audio Visual Aids and the county’s seven Senior Centers.
