5 Things To Know About Warren Middle School

From guitars and Smartboards, to new bleachers in the old gym, there's a lot happening at Warren Middle School.

You Need To Know The Old Gym Is Getting New Bleachers: Nickerson Corporation, of Union Beach, bid $91,000 for the contract to install new bleachers in the school's old gym—but it's not going to cost that much. The district has been able to recycle the old wood bleachers, realizing a substantial savings. That's the good news: the bad news is the project wasn't completed for the beginning of schools but is expected to be done in a few weeks.

You Need To Know About The Busy PTO: The middle school has a very involved PTO, which makes contributions to the school every year. In the last few months, the PTO donated four $2,200 Smartboards, 29 Elmo document cameras (at $600 each!), $1,005.06 for eighth-grade science equipment, and a number of Yamaha acoustic guitar for the music department. Be sure to check on this year's fundraising plans and sign up to help out.

You Need To Know Who's New: Several new faces greeted students yesterday, including Guidance Counselor Stephanie Thompson, Paraprofessionals Allan Huang and Beth Ann Filiano, and Special Education Teacher Jessica Halpern.  Ms. Aptekar.)

You Need To Know Who's Not There: Several staff members left the school this year, including kindergarten teacher Jaclyn Aptekar Guidance Counselor Stephanie Thompson, Lianne Heteji, Leslie Ortega, and Special Education Teacher Judith Motz, who retired this year after finishing 12 years in the district.

You Need To Know Cleanup Is Underway For Last Week's Fire: Sometime during the week, when the power was out, someone placed a chair on top of an electric stove in the Home Arts department...which was either left on when the power went out or accidentally turned on. Either way, it doesn't take the school's science department to tell you what happened when the power was restored.

Fortunately, damage was limited to the room, and crews are already at work repairing the damage. Meanwhile, undaunted teacher Bev MacGorman is working with the students in another room.
