Christopher Ray Awarded Wakefern-ShopRite Scholarship

Scholarship awards $2,000 to academically-achieving children of company's employees.

Christopher Ray of Warren will receive a Wakefern-ShopRite Scholarship offered by the Wakefern-ShopRite Scholarship program.

The award gives  Christopher, and co-winner Alyssa Egstrand of Belle Mead, $2,000 each for their undergraduate studies.

Christopher will be a sophomore at the New Jersey Institute of Technology where he is pursuing a degree in Information Technology. He is a member of the Phi Eta Sigma national honor society and is ranked second in his graduating class. He graduated from Watchung Hills Regional High School.

"We are honored to recognize our local students for their academic achievement and we are proud to offer them help to support their educational goals,” Dean Janeway, Wakefern-ShopRite President and COO, said.

The 26 year-old scholarship program recognizes outstanding academic performance of students planning to continue their education. Since its inception, the program has granted over three quarters of a million dollars. The selection of winners was administered by Scholarship Management Services, a department of Scholarship America, a national non-profit educational support and student aid service organization.

The 2011 Wakefern-ShopRite Scholarship Program is designed to help Wakefern-ShopRite associates’ children or grandchildren further their education. Out of 108 applicants, 22 scholarship recipients were chosen based on their grade point average. This year, the average grade point of the High School seniors was 3.94 and the average GPA for the college students was 3.85.
