Middle School Achievers Recognized at Board Meeting

Monday's township board of education meeting begins with recognitions for students winning awards in competitions.

Before settling in to the night's business, the Warren Township Board of Education saluted students at the middle school who had particpated—and been recognized—in academic completitions during the school year.

"Congratulations to all the students—you are what makes Warren so great and we're so proud of our educational excellence," board Vice-president Mildred Spiller said.

Seventh-grade team's second-place honors in the New Jersey State Bar Association Law Adventure Contest. Team members were Michelle Gekhtman, Alexandria Hentschel, Parima Kadikar, Junwoo Park, Johnny Penek, Rebecca Sinha, LizAnn Sung and Emily Tang.

Perfect scores on all five meets of the Continental Math competition (National winners): Abhiram Karuppur and Kevin Lu.

New Jersey Geography Bee fifth-place winner Will DiGrande.

Seton Hall Prep Pirate Bowl Champions Abhiram Karuppur, Andrew Greenberg, Scott Brown and Joseph Da.

Watchung Hills Elks Lodge "Why I amProud to be an American" essay contest winners Olivia Fogel and Gregory Puccio.

Le Grand Concours French Language competition eight-grade students fininshing in the top 10 percent nationally: A.J. Bisci, Karen Chi, Katie Mathison, Valeria Saro (who finished fifth nationally and fourth in New Jersey), Tiffany Yu and Emma Zeng. Seventh-grade students finishing in the top 20 percent nationally: Jenna Charko and Zuzanna Kasper.

The board also recognized the Scholastic Gold Key Writing Award winners:

Shayna Bozozo, for her short story "The Glass Slipper."

Joseph Da, for his poems "Tornado" and "Hopelessness."

Olivia Fogel for her personal essay/memoir submission "The Power of Pasta" and for her poem, "Behind the Scene Lies a Dream: Memoirs of a Poet."

Sarah Kweit, for her short stories "Master Keys" and "Elephant Leather."

Amanda Larson, for her short stories What Sound Sounds Like" and "Sing Me To Sleep..."

Rebecca Novik's short short story "The Monster."

Carl Valentino, for his short short story "The Turquoise Chair."

Emily Wilson, for her short story "Murderous Irony."

and William Zhang's sci-fi/fantasy entry "A Weapon of God."
