Mt. Horeb Students Help Displaced Families in Point Pleasant

Collect donated gift cards to send to help families.

With nearly 80 families still displaced by Hurricane Sandy and in need of everyday household items, a group of Mt. Horeb Elementary School students took steps to help out.

The students collected $5,580 in various gifts cards to stores that are nearby Point Pleasant families—cards for purchases at gas stations, Lowes, Home Depot and Target—to help out. About 258 students participated in the project launched by fifth-grade teacher and Service Club Leader Chris Burkhardt, along with her fellow student club members and the school's PTO.

PTO Executive Secretary Brenda Liberti and board member Maryanne DuBois delivered the gift cards to the Point Pleasant Board of Education Office on March 13th.
