Only Long Hill Voters Will See Contested Board Race

Watchung, Warren incumbents unopposed in re-election bid.

Three seats are up for election on the Watchung Hills Regional Board of Education April 27, but incumbents Sondra Fechtner and Robert Horowitz are unopposed.

Long Hill voters will elect a new member, with current board member Bernard Yaged not filing for re-election by yesterday's deadline. Newcomers Robert Lavorerio, of Millingotn, and Lisa A. DeMizio will be on the ballot for the seat.

Fechtner, of Watchung, is a long-time member of the board, and was inducted into the school's Hall of Fame in 2008 for her service to the school and her presence on the board of education since 1981.

Horowitz, of Warren, is completing his second term on the board, during which time he said he has been focused on maintaining the level of education offered through several difficult years when the district's budget was reduced by more than $2 million because of state aid cuts and a failed budget proposal last year.
