School Honors Seniors' Achievements Before Graduation

Senior class garners scholarships and other awards.

Watchung Hills Regional High School celebrated the senior class with an awards program Monday night in the school's Performing Arts Center.

The event was divided into three parts, opening with PTO-affiliated awards and other financial awards, followed by academic, service and achievement awards, and closing with memorial awards.

During the event, Antoinette Katakam awarded seven $1,000 scholarships on behalf of the Watchung Hills Regional High School PTO. Students receiving the awards were Carly Borinsky, Pia Vaidya, Annie Yang, Chelsea Harris, Matthew Mandel, Rosalie Minovich and Breanua Williams.

Nicole DiSarno and Emily Blazak each received a $300 scholarship from the Louise Bardwell Memorial Scholarship, and Drew Vautin, Alexis Dietz and Carolyn Sivco receved $1,000 scholarships from the WHRHS PTO Service Scholarship. Both were presented by Antoinette Katakam.

John Truglio presented the Warren Lions Club Scholarships, $1,000 each, to Chris DiBari, Nicole Liebler, Mallory Bloom, Angeica Lieto and Matthew Mandel.

Logan Taylor, Chris DiBari, Mallory Bloom and Zoe Malkin received $1,000 scholarships from the Warren-Watchung Rotary Club Memorial Scholarship fund, presented by Neil Drasin.

The $500 Dawn Gayle Coury Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Jason Riddell.

Jill Pila presented the Warren Township PTOs scholarships, $1,250 each, to Matthew Mandel and Pia Vaidya.

The Watchung Hills Elks BPOE 2252 awarded three $1,500 scholarships, going to Annie Yang, Pia Vaidya and Emily Alexandre. WHREA Education Scholarships of $1,000 each went to Christine Eaton and Nicole Liebler.

Special awards presented included Sgt. Tavonne Douglas presenting the Semper Fidelis Award to Distinguised Scholar Brittany MacTaggart, the Semper Fidelis Award for Music Excellence to Nicole D'Angelo, and the Semper Fidelis Award for Athletic Excellence award to Matthew Meyers.

The ceremony included notable achievements by the students, such as those receiving a perfect score on the math section of the SAT tests. Students recognized for this acheivement were Marco Mathematics, Ryan Butler, Anthony Chen, Christopher Gardner, Christian Hansen, Gordan Jiang, Feifei Kong, Jennie Liu, Devanshi Mehta, Brian Ng, Jason Riddell, Delia Shen, Jason Stupay, Chad Tabikh,
Pia Vaidya, Isha Vasudeva, Zachary Wasserstein, Michael Wu and Annie Yang.
