Superintendent: 'Doing Everything to Restore Power'

Tami Crader says students' safety is a top concern for administrators.

As most Warren residents know, the absence of power in our town has been challenging to everyone in the community, to say the least.

I would like parents and students in the Warren School District to know that I have been doing everything possible to restore power at our schools. As I write this on Tuesday evening, Mt. Horeb School and Woodland School are without power.

To help solve our power outage issue, I have be in contact with Police Chief Russel Leffert, Jane Asch of the Warren Office of Emergency Management, the governor’s office, PSE&G, JCP&L and our building and grounds staff.  I have a Wednesday morning appointment for a prognosis on our power status from a JCP&L representative.

I want parents to know that the safety of our children is my highest priority at this time. I simply cannot put students into an unsafe environment of school rooms without heat and proper lighting. In addition, with so many downed trees and power lines, it is not safe to put our buses on the roads.

Tomorrow, I will also convene a meeting with school administrators to determine a backup plan for the remaining days of the week. As part of that plan, I am looking into placing generators at Woodland and Mt. Horeb schools in order to open. The challenge is to be able to generate enough power to adhere to fire codes.

Rest assured that I will promptly issue communications once it is safe again to bus our students to our schools and conduct class at the high standards to which we have all become accustomed.

Thank you for your patience during this trying time.

Dr. Tami Crader
