Township School Board Issues Negotiations Update

Says fact-finder's report expected within the week.

The would like to express its appreciation for the community’s patience throughoutthese past several months as members work toward the resolution of the BOE‐WTEA contract.  

A . Since that time, the Board of Education has initiated three face‐to‐face meetings.  Representatives from the two groups have also spoken via telephone calls and have exchanged multiple proposals.

Although early offers included salary adjustments of less than 2 percent in any year, higher offers were made in more recent discussions.  To respond to questions asked of board members and to clarify any misinformation, please note the following regarding recent proposals presented by the Board of Education to the WTEA, all of which have been subsequently declined by the WTEA:

  • An overall four‐year settlement rather than a three‐year settlement (2010‐2011, 2011‐2012,2012‐2013, 2013‐2014)
  • At least a 2.0 percent increase in each of the four years  (including provisions for pro‐rated retroactive pay).

The Board of Education has not, in recent offers, indicated a desire for salary freezes and has worked diligently to find creative ways to resolve the dispute between the two parties.  The Board of Education recognizes the contributions that are made by the district’s staff and believes that it has made a fair offer that balances the needs of the teachers and the needs of the district.

Despite an , we have been notified that we can expect a fact‐finding report within a week. The Board will make the report public within 10 days of receipt.  As always, members of the public areencouraged to attend public Board of Education meetings.
