Villanova Names 7 From Warren to Dean's List

A roundup of recent accomplishments on campus.

Seven Warren students attending Villanova University have been named to the Dean's List for the fall 2011 semester.

Peter Batista, enrolled in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences;

Douglas Jadis, enrolled in the Villanova School of Business;

Angelica Lieto, enrolled in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences;

Hillary Penek, enrolled in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Villanova University Dean's List recipients are honored by their college's respective dean. To qualify, one must be a matriculated full-time student and earn a semester grade point average of at least 3.5.

St. Joseph's names William Batista to Honor Society

Saint Joseph's University's Beta Gamma Sigma chapter inducted Warren resident William Batista into its honor society during a ceremony on April 20. Saint Joseph's University's student chapter has also been recognized with the society's 2012 Gold Chapter Award, competing against 504 chapters from around the globe.

Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) is an international honor society for business students. Qualifying for membership is the highest scholastic honor a student in business can attain. To be eligible, students must rank in the upper 10 percent of their junior class, the upper 10 percent of their senior class, or the upper 20 percent of their graduate class.

Students who receive a BGS award must attend colleges and universities accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). The Haub School of Business at Saint Joseph's earned AACSB accreditation in 2000.

Matthew Balkonis earns dean's list status at Washington and Lee University

Matthew Balkonis, a member of the class of 2012 at Washington and Lee University form Warren, has earned dean's list status for the recently ended winter 2012 term.

Dean's list status at Washington and Lee represents a term grade-average of at least 3.4 on a 4.0 scale.

Artwork by Austin Peer, a Freshman Art and Design major from Warren, was included in the Freshman Foundation's Yearend Show at Alfred University. Work by more than 108 young artists from the School of Art & Design was featured.

Peer is the son of Charles & Nancy Peer of Warren, and is a graduate of

Freshman Foundation is the first-year experience for the bachelor of fine arts degree program and is designed to prepare students for continued study in the upper levels of the curriculum. Foundation explores concepts and builds skills that can be applied to contemporary art practice in any field.
