Warren School Board Set for New Year

Tuesday's re-organization meeting adds Tia Allocco and John De Bellis to the board.

Annual re-organization meetings for school boards are mostly pro forma—there's a sundry list of items to attend to, such as when the board will meet, and who will provide milk for school lunches, and other such matters.

But before that, the board must swear in newly-elected members and decide who gets the job of president for the coming year.

Tuesday night's Warren Township Board of Education re-organization meeting may have been lacking in drama while working through its agenda, but it was brimming with good humor.

Gregory Przybylski returns as board president, and Mildred Spiller, elected last week to her third term, was tapped for the board's no. 2 spot as vice-president. As the meeting began with the members sitting in alphabetical order, the election of officers required some shuffling of chairs and name plates.

New members Tia Allocco and John De Bellis were named as the board's representatives to the New Jersey School Boards Association and the Somerset County Educational Services Commission, respectively. Dr. Przybylski noted the new members often had an opportunity to fully study the two groups.

"Since our newest board members wouldn't even know what those positions might be, which might be a good time to 'volunteer' them," he quipped.  De Bellis said he had some knowledge of the Educational Services Commission and volunteered for the post.

The board's next meeting will be 7 p.m. May 9, in the conference room at the administrative offices.
