Warren Township School Board Selects New Member

Five candidates applied, and those not chosen urged to run as write-ins in November school election.

The Warren Township Board of Education on Tuesday night selected Len DeMontagnac to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of board member John DeBellis, but even so, those not chosen still have a good shot getting a spot on the local school board.

After going into closed session and voting to appoint DeMontagnac to the unexpired board seat, Board President Mildred Spiller urged at least some of the other four applicants to run as write-in candidates in November.

Board member James Sena is running for re-election to sit on the board but two other board members, Don Huber and Roberta Monahan, decided not to seek re-election.

"Coming from all of us colectively, we do not want you to be discouraged about this election coming up," Spiller said.

She also told the five applicants that it had been a very difficult choice deciding on which person to appoint.

DeMontagnac later said he served on the steering committee for the school district's Strategic Planning Committee. He said he has two children at the Angelo L. Tomaso School and has lived in town for eight years.
