Warren Twp. Education Foundation Starting Up Again In January

Revival of fundraising group expected to enhance education and pay for 'big projects' in Warren schools.

The Warren Township Education Foundation, dormant for about four or five years, is expected to be revived in January, with a goal of "maintaining the current state of excellence of Warren's schools."

Warren Mayor Victor Sordillo announced at last week's Warren Township Committee that the WTEF will be "reinvigorated," and will attempt to bring the community into fundraising efforts.

On Tuesday, Sordillo said he had talked beforehand with Warren Township Schools Superintendent Tami Crader, whom he said had initiated efforts to again set up the non-profit foundation.

He said those efforts are really expected to get off the ground in January.

The foundation, which will begin to meet at the end of January, was an outgrowth of the the K-8 school district's yearlong Strategic Plan process last year, Crader said this week.

"We are looking for partnerships with corporations and excited to fundraise for big projects and enhancements, she said.

Last week, Crader said a major wish on the list is the equip all of the schools in the kindergarten through grade 8 school system with 21st-century computer labs. She said then that the schools have all they need of such equipment, but would like to go beyond that level to achieve "all we want."

"We have big dreams for what the foundation can do," Crader added.

Sordillo on Tuesday said he had been one of the founding members of the WTEF. He had recalled major fundraising efforts in the 1990s.

Efforts then, in a program from a fundraiser in 1995, had the goal of adding to programs and other aspects of education in the K-8 district.
