Watchung Hills Seeking Nominations for Hall of Fame

Do you know a former student who should be included in the prestigious listing?

When the newest additions to Watchung Hills Regional High School’s Hall of Fame are announced in January 2012, the inductees will be among educational and athletic leaders, a Nobel Prize Laureate and other former students who left their marks on the world.

Nominations for the honor are being accepted through Dec. 15. Nomination forms may be obtained at the school’s main office at 108 Stirling Road, or on the school website.

The Hall of Fame includes former NFL player Billy Ard, political commentator Monica Crowley, and Adam Riess, a co-winner of this year's Nobel Prize in Physics.

The names of the 2012 honorees will be announced at the end of January, and an induction/reception ceremony for those who have been selected by the nominating committee is scheduled for April 21 in the school’s Performing Arts Center.

The Watchung Hills Hall of Fame, now in its fifth year, honors alumni of the school who have achieved distinction either during their high school years or in professional or community life thereafter, and also individuals such as school board members, teachers, coaches and others who exemplify outstanding service to the school. Nominations of individuals who were nominated but not selected will be retained for consideration for four years.

Those so honored are recognized by a personalized plaque in the school’s main lobby.

The Hall of Fame, in its four years of existence, includes 38 persons who represent many fields, such as teaching, music, public service, entertainment, athletics, science, etc.
