Jr. Pee Wees Shut Down South Plainfield Offense

Team scores 32 points on way to lopsided victory.

Blue Flag

The Wolverines were led on offense by Jake Checchio (2 carries for 25 yards), John Cerwinski (2 carries for 20 yards) and Tyler Marion (2 carries for 25 yards) each with a touchdown as well
as Luke Freijomil (4 carries for 70 yards).

On defense, the team was led by Elhanan Wilson grabbing 4 flags and with 3 flags each were Luke Freijomil, Vincent Freijomil and Kenny McGoldrick

Gold Flag

The Wolverines took on the Eagles of South Plainfield and the Packers of Montgomery in a round robin format this week. The Wolverine offense exploded with 315 yards rushing on the
day. All of the Wolverines carried the ball for positive yards with the following players scoring touchdowns: Aqili Holmes (5 carries, 90 yards, 1 TD), Matthew Dahl (4 carries, 35 yards,
1 TD), Dylan Kelly (5 carries, 40 yards, 1 TD), John King (3 carries, 55 yards, 2 TD's) and Timothy Marshall (2 carries, 10 yards, 1 TD). Dylan Simon and Lorenzo Percario added 25-yard
runs as well.

The Wolverine defense gave up less than 100 yards on the day and only two scores with a dominant defensive front. Jeffrey Meslow won the battle in the trenches and was in the offensive backfield all day long finishing with four flags. Colin Archbold controlled the outside with five flags and an interception. Dylan Kelly finished the day with four flags and an interception while Aqili Holmes and Matthew Dahl grabbed three flags each. Dylan Braunstein came up huge by grabbing two touchdown saving flags at the end of the game.

Junior Flag

The Wolverines battled the Eagles of South Plainfield and the Packers of Montgomery. The offense was unstoppable scoring eight times on the day and rushing for over 300 yards. Joseph
Vecchio led all rushers with 3 scoring runs. Chase Miller (2 carries, 60 yards), David Hatcher (3 carries, 45 yards), David Rosenfarb (3 carries, 50 yards), Donnie Catanese (3 carries, 40 yards)
and Quentin Tao (4 carries, 50 yards) each scored touchdowns.

The overpowering defense was led by Chase Miller who finished the day with seven flags. Ryan Johnson, David Hatcher, Joseph Vecchio and Quentin Tao each had five flags. David Rosenfarb and Travis Jelmert also had strong days defensively pulling four flags each.

The Watchung Hills Wolverines welcomed the South Plainfield Eagles to their field this past Sunday for Pop Warner Mighty Might action. The teams played a spirited game that came down to the final plays of the game. The Wolverines relied on their ball control offense and run stuffing defense to yet again dominate the time of possession and controlled the ball for most of the game, while the Eagles capitalized on their playmaking ability and field position.

The Wolverines struck first as QB Adam Cardoza plowed in from 3 yards out near the end of the first half. The play capped a second quarter that saw only three offensive plays on offense for South Plainfield as the Wolverines hogged the ball and kept the Eagles off the field. The offensive line of Jack Dardis, Anthony Yanotta, K.C. Boyle, Shane Kelly and Bryce Rooks consistently pushed back the Eagle front throughout the first half. In the second half the Wolverine attack turned to RB Justin Ferriera and TE Patrick Stefurak to keep the momentum going. Ferriera ended the day with 73 yards on 9 carries, and Stefurak caught 3 passes for 52 yards from QB John Annunziata including one for a score in the 4th quarter.

Defensively, the Wolverines relied on their strong linebacking core of Justin Ferriera, Michael Butrico and Josh Ramierez. Ferriera led the way again totaling 10 tackles. Ramierez had 4 tackles and Butrico had 3 tackles and a forced fumble. The Wolverine Defense held the Eagles to 135 total yards.

The Wolverines play their final home game of the season this week against Delaware Valley. Come out and support the team!

Jr. Pee Wee

The Watchung Hills Jr Pee Wee team trounced South Plainfield 32-7. Connor Cook scored the first TD on a 30 yard sweep after his 75 yarder was called back for a phantom illegal block.

Gavin Defuria added 2 more on a 50 yard punt return and a 25 yard sweep. Andrew Reale scored his first TD of the season on a 20 yard scamper. Anthony Denave put the game well out of reach with a 45 yard QB sneak to end the scoring for the wolverines. The blocking by Anthony Tomaro, Michael Fornaro and David D'Amore helped spring the RBs. Jack Taub and Chris Clintock pounded the middle with some hard nosed running.

The hard-hitting Wolverine defense shut down the high-powered South Plainfield offense all game. The defense was led by the secondary of Anthony Denave, Gavin Defuria, TJ Pecoraro, Justin Uberoi and Matty Colantuono. Denave led the charge with 2 interceptions and Matty Colantuono added an interception late in the game to seal the win. The Defensive line led by Robbie Saum, Chris Suslugu, Joey Rica, Michael Coacher, and David D'Amore kept the Eagles quarterback under constant pressure with Coacher leading the way with 2 sacks. The linebacking core of Chris Clintock, Connor Cook, Andrew Reale, and Jack Taub dominated the
eagles running game all game.

PeeWee

The Watchung Hills Wolverine Pee Wee suffered their first loss of the season to Montgomery by a score of 14-12. The Montgomery Wildcats received the opening kick-off and drove it 55 yards for their first score. The Wildcats blocked a punt in the next series and ran it back for another score and led 14-0 at the half.

The Wolverines drove the ball down the field to open the second half and Brendan Cook scored on an 8 yard run up the middle. Tom Schelling and Nick Ugarte made key plays on defense to keep Montgomery off the scoreboard in the second half.

Josh Hansen connected with Eric Plesko for a long score in the 4th quarter to pull within 3 points.
Plesko also returned a punt for 30 yard to the Montgomery 25 yard line with 3 minutes left. The Wolverines moved the ball down to the 5 but couldn’t punch it in for the score.

The Wolverines take on Philipsburg Sunday at Phillipsburg.
