Watchung Hills Regional Warriors football team notched its fifth win of the season, beating Linden 35-21 at Tozier Field, Friday.
Powered by the one-two offensive punch of senior running back Anthony Prus and QB Tommy Giaimo, with Prus scoring three times and Giaimo scoring twice.
Watchung Hills raced out to a strong lead at the beginning of the game, and held a 14-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. Strong defensive playing, and Linden's penalty trouble, pushed the Warriors' lead to 21-7 at the half.
Linden found a weakness in the defensive line in the third quarter, turning the advantage the Warriors had held in first downs to their advantage. Linden marched downfield to score with about three minutes left in the quarter.
But the Warriors responded quickly to maintain the 14 point lead at the end of the third quarter.
Linden continued to pound away on the ground, scoring again in the fourth. Watchung Hills turned the ball over on downs, and Linden was again working towards the goal but failed to get a first down deep in Warriors territory.
The Warriors moved the ball back and scored the game's final points with less than a 1:30 left in the game.
The Warriors' record stands at 5-3 on the season. The team travels to Ridge next week for the regular season final.1 2 3 4 Final Watchung Hills (5-3) 14 7 7 7 35 Linden (1-6) 7 0 7 7 21
