In Short

After a scoreless first half, the Warriors fell behind 1-0 on a rebound goal in their own box.  Midway through the second half, Greg Stone headed a ball home to knot the score at one apiece.  Hillsborough opportunistically responded twice with buried shots off the crossbar and post respectively down the final stretch to seal the 3-1 win.  The Warriors dropped to 2-7 on the season.

Warrior of the Game

Greg Stone – The senior forward placed a picture perfect shot in the second half, using his head to hit the ball to the near side.  He redirected it off a play by junior defender Jaysen Bohrod, as the ball glanced off where the post and crossbar meet and ricocheted towards the other side of the net as the ball trickled over the goal line, tying the game at one.

Other Key Performances

Ben Roth and Phil Reytan – The sophomore and senior midfielder, respectively, were highly involved in the offensive attack and were part of the reason the Watchung Hills offense created as many high scoring opportunities as they have all season.  Reytan had a direct kick just outside the 18 which rattled around and nearly found the back of the net after the Warriors fell behind 1-0.  Trailing 2-1, Roth just missed putting away a chance after a Warrior throw in.

Coach’s Take

“Today was a day of some missed opportunities.  Anticipating the second ball defensively…they basically scored the same goal off the same kind of play three times.  We got caught watching.”  - Head Coach Greg Leonow on his team’s offensive and defensive performance

“We work on different things in practice.  We’ve executed some of it on the playing field and others, like finishing, we haven’t so we continue to always work.”  - Leonow on execution vs. practice
