Ridge Heads to Finals After Beating Watchung Hills

Despite Warriors' control of much of the action, Red Devils advance to soccer finals.

Ridge goalkeeper Rachel Axt held off six shots to keep Watchung Hills from scoring in the regional semi-final game at Tozier Field Friday, helping Ridge hold onto an early score to win 1-0.

The loss came even as the Warriors controlled nearly every aspect of the game.

"They played a great game—they couldn't have done anything better, they just didn't get the ball through," Ridge Head Coach Katie Donahue said.

The Warriors controlled the midfield through most of the game, and when not advancing the ball towards the goal, the Warriors kept the pressure on Axt and Ridge's defense.

"I'm really glad I have a really great defense because they back me up," Axt said.

Ridge scored early, with team captain Nicole Bates scoring at 3:25 in the first period, to get ahead and nursed the lead through the balance of the game.

The Red Devils face Scotch Plains Tuesday in the finals.
