Warriors Ready to Move Up in Conference [Video]

They may be a young team, but they enter the field with experience.

With a season opener tonight at North Hunterdon Regional High School, in Clinton, the Watchung Hills Regional football team is ready to begin the 2011 season.

OVERVIEW
The Warriors come into this season as a young squad, but a more experienced one. That comes from last year, when a slew of sophomores were put on the field by second-year head coach Marc Crisafi, and expected to perform. They did, but with some growing pains—this year, expectations are greater.

LAST SEASON'S RESULTS
The Warriors went 1-11 during the regular season.

KEEP YOUR EYE ON

  • Tom Giaimo,  Quarterback (Jr.)—Giaimo moved into the starting QB spot last year, getting an early test of his mettle. Older and stronger this year, Giaimo looks to step up his team leadership.
  • Frank Urso, TE/LB (Jr.)—Urso's athleticism and size will make him a potent double threat for the Warriors.
  • Anthony Prus, RB (Jr.)—Prus' speed was on display in last week's scrimmage against Hillside. The more experienced line will give him opportunities to score.

  • Scott Grossnickle—Last year's team captain provided speed and strength on both offense and defense, and was quick to take advantage of weaknesses on opposing lines.

COACH'S TAKE
"We have our offense and our defense in place and they're flexible enough to adjust things when we get in the games." —Crisafi
