Watchung Hills Wins on PKs to Advance to State Final

Warrior goalkeeper Lindsey Carroll made 10 saves in semifinal win over Ridge.

After getting as far as the semifinal game for the state playoffs in the North Jersey Section 2, Group 4 bracket Monday afternoon, both Watchung Hills Regional High and Ridge girls soccer teams were dead set against letting their opponents land a goal.

And both teams were successful in that effort. There were a lot of tumbles, a sliding, skinned knees and — most relevant for Ridge — a lot of saves by Watchung Hills goalkeeper Lindsey Carroll to halt kicks heading directly into the Warriors goalpost. But no goals for either the Warriors or Red Devils.

The game ultimately ended after double overtime when Watchung Hills advanced on penalty kicks over Ridge, said Ridge Coach Katie Donahue.

Carroll had 10 saves during the game, while Ridge goalie Samantha Carney kept Watchung Hills scoreless with 2 saves, according to NJ.com. The game was played at Lee Field at Ridge High School.

Watchung Hills next faces Bridgewater on Thursday for the state playoff final.
