Watchung Hills Football Notches Second Win of Season

Warriors upend Warren Hills for first 2-0 start in more than a decade.

The Watchung Hills football team beat visiting Warren Hills 26-7 on Friday night, winning the Warriors' second game of the season.

The Warriors improved to 2-0 for the first time in more than a decade, according to NJ.com.

Warrior Ryan Cunningham had two touchdowns, Joe Giacomo scored a touchdown and threw a touchdown pass, and Ben Gomes scored a touchdown, according to Watchung Hills Touchdown Club president Glenn Mastrobattista. The Warriors now are 2-0 heading into next week's matchup against North Hunterdon High Schoolin Annendale.

Ryan Cunningham ran for more than 200 yards and Joe Giacomo ran for another 100 yards to lead the way, according to NJ.com.

On the same night, the Touchdown Club held a special dedication to rename the team’s inflatable blast tunnel as the Jerry Mobus Spirit Tunnel. At the start of games, the players run through the tunnel and out onto the field as a show of pride and spirit.

The renaming honors the late Mayor of Watchung, Jerry Mobus, who served as the longtime voice of the Warriors Football Program, he said.

The same night, the Touchdown Club hosted its annual Future Warriors Night, where youth football players and cheerleaders from the Watchung Hills Pop Warner and Junior Warriors football/cheer programs were honored before the start of the Warriors Game against Warren Hills.
