Watchung Hills Teams Win Conference Championships
Pee Wees and Jr. Midgets advance to regionals.
On a windy turf field at Montgomery High School, the Watchung Hills Wolverines Pee Wee and Midget footballs team faced Bridgewater-Raritan Panthers teams in Conference Championships, Oct. 28.
Pee Wees Capture Conference Title
The Pop Warner Mountain Valley Conference Champions will advances to the Pop Warner Eastern Region Championships, taking on conference champions from Buffalo, N.Y., Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C.

Jr. Midgets Remain Perfect

The Watchung Hills Jr. Midgets defeated the Bridgewater-Raritan Panthers in the Mountain Valley Conference Championship game 24-14.
Eric Plesko started the scoring with a 4 yard score behind the blocking of Jonathan Taub, Trevor Duncan, and Nick Molinari. Tim Adams added the kick for the two point conversion. The defense kept the Panthers to 2 first downs in the first half with Matt Roth and Tyler Jelmert making big plays. Bridgewater broke a long run early in the 3rd quarter and tied the game up 8-8.
The Wolverines roared back with big runs by Nick Ugarte and Plesko with strong downfield blocking by Mike Ugarte. Tim Adams added the kick and the wolverines went up
16-8. Bridgewater broke another long run and brought the Panthers within 2 points at the end of the 3rd quarter.
The Wolverine defense would only yield one additional first down for the remainder of the game.
Nick Ugarte and Robbie Zito made big tackles with Gary Gagliotti and Nick Webster plugging up the middle. Connor James scampered in from 28 yards out for the final TD and Adams added the kick to seal the victory.
The Wolverines enter the Eastern Region tournament and play 5 p.m. Saturday (tentatively), at Notre Dame high school in Lawrenceville.
