Find a Summer Sports Camp in Warren

We've got the low-down on camps from Watchung Hills coaches Mike D'Alessandro and Justin Salton, to the YMCA and NIKE.

Having your kids participate in an organized summer camp program is certainly not a necessity, but there are plenty of benefits, both physical and emotional, to be realized.

Socialization, fitness, sportsmanship, teamwork and increased self-esteem are just a few. Perhaps your child would like to develop or expand a particular expertise, or simply hone their skills in preparation for school teams or clubs.

Ah, but where to begin the search?

The Warren Recreation Commission offers tennis camps led by Steve Levin through the summer. Kids can learn the basics, improve their backhands and gain confidence with the camps.

And the Somerset Hills YMCA will host a number of camps over the summer—this year's programs begin June 23.

If your child wants to spend a week or more away from home for camp, there are a variety of options across the country. Nike—yes, the footwear provider—operates numerous sports camps in hundreds of locations across the United States. Options include rugby, golf, water polo and many more. A golf camp is set for Piscataway this year, and volleyball players can attend a Nike camp at Rutgers.

But perhaps the favorite camps for local athletes are those offered by Watchung Hills Regional varsity coaches. Softball Coach Mike D'Alessandro will be teaching skills at his softball camp from July 8—19.

Hoopsters can build their skills at camps led by boys basketball Head Coach Justin Salton, whose popular Hoops Camps for boys and girls are scheduled for July 8 through Aug. 2. There are specialty weeks, so even the best players can build on their skills. Registration is available on the camp's website.

If camp isn’t in the cards for your family this summer, there’s always the backyard, where any number of sporting activities can be performed!
