Olympian Jared Frayer Signs Singlet

Dr. Fred Rossi, team chiropractor for U.S. freestyle men's wrestling at the Olympics, files blogs from final matches.

The U.S.A. men's freestyle wrestling team arrived on the mat late in the London Olympic games, but might conceivably say that some of the best had been saved for last — the wrestlers for whom Rossi was the official team chiropractor put on a good showing overall and will return home with two gold medals.

USA's Jake Varner on Sunday defeated Valerie Andriitsev of Ukraine 1-0 and 1-0 to win gold in men's 96-kilogram freestyle, according to details on nbcolympics.com.

A few days earlier, New Jersey's Jordan Burroughs had won gold in the 74 kilograms category, "handily" winning with an Iranian opponent in a rematch from last year's world championship gold medal match, according to Rossi's blog site in which he has been posting updates and photos from the Olympics.

Rossi's blog also included a photo of Jared Frayer signing a wresting singlet he had carried with him that is owned by a Watchung Hills Regional High School wrestling team member.

"One up-and-coming sophomore, Max Meyers, [Watchung Hills wrestler] recently traveled to Fargo, N.D. for a national tournament," Rossi wrote previously. "Wrestlers swap singlets at these tournaments and N.J. is highly sought after, both due to the design of the singlet and also because N.J. is known to produce great wrestlers." He pointed to gold medalist Burroughs as an example.

"Max traded a N.J. singlet for a Florida singlet, no big deal right? Well, it turns out that the Florida singlet has pictures of three Olympian freestyle wrestlers: Two from USA, Sam Hazewinkel (55 kg), Jared Frayer (66 kg), and Franklin Gomez from Puerto Rico (60 kg)."

Sam Hazewinkel had signed the singlet in Florida and Rossi told Meyers he would have Jared Frayer sign it for him in London. His blog includes a photo of Frayer signing the singlet, with his notation that his mission is complete.
