Last Day Wednesday to Donate to October VNA Rummage Sale

If you want to donate items to help underwrite Visiting Nurse Association's community health programs, Wednesday is last day.

Wednesday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. is the last day that donations will be accepted for October's upcoming giant rummage sale to benefit the Visiting Nurse Association of Somerset Hills.

Donations may be dropped off — with assistance unloading to be provided by volunteers — at the Far Hills Fairgrounds, located at Route 202 (Peapack Road) in Far Hills. The sale will be held on the first weekend in October at the same location, and some giant tents already are erected.

The VNA accepts — and then, through the efforts of hundreds of volunteers — sorts and prices a huge variety of clothing, household merchandise, sporting goods, toys and other items sold to benefit those being served by the Visiting Nurse Association.

A complete list of acceptable and unacceptable items is available at http://www.visitingnurse.org/news-and-events/rummage.

Proceeds from the volunteer-run sale will provide health care, hospice and wellness services to community members and their families without adequate insurance or financial resources. In addition, dollars raised will help enable the VNA to offer essential wellness services not covered by any insurance.

The long-running sale — held in some form for about nine decades — has been called the mother of all garage sales in New Jersey — but by now, it's more like a beloved and familiar grandmother.

Sales are open to the public with free parking each spring and fall. For information on volunteering, call the VNA at 908-781-6445.

This fall's sale dates

The dates for this year's fall sale are from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 4 and 5, and from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 6. More information is online at  http://www.visitingnurse.org/news-and-events/rummage
