Teachers Give Kids a Lesson in Helping Out

Members of Warren Township Education Association lend a hand at Lions Club Expo.

On June 15, members of the Warren Township Education Association happily took part in the annual Lions Club Warren Expo.

In a show of support for the Lions service club and the community at large, volunteers were stationed at a table near the entrance of the fair from 6 to 9:30 p.m. The local teachers/WTEA members distributed cold bottles of water with neoprene cozies emblazoned with the group's logo to passersby and applied temporary tattoos to fair-going children, all for no cost.

"It is important for the WTEA to make our presence felt outside the schools and show our support for the community around us. These are our 'customers,'"FAST (Family and Schools Together) Chairman PJ Jones said.

The event was a great opportunity for the WTEA members to introduce themselves to many community members who may not interact with public school teachers regularly, as well as a great chance for children to see their teachers outside of school.

"The kids forget sometimes that we have lives outside of school, and that we are members of this community as well," Jones added.

The WTEA is very thankful to the Lions club for the opportunity, and they look forward to future collaboration on community events and service.
