Warren 'Best Place to Live' Celebration, Watchung Hills High 'Witness' Coming This Week

Also Warren Board of Education on Monday night.

Warren Township is a special place — but don't take residents' word for it.

The township will this Wednesday night celebrate New Jersey Monthly naming Warren Township as the second best place to live in all of New Jersey — and number one in Somerset County, as well as recognizing the contributions of local volunteers at the same event.

The Warren Township Committee selected an evening — settling on 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 13, to hold the regular committee meeting at the Watchung Hills Regional High School at 108 Stirling Road in Warren. The meeting and reception will be held in the South Building Auditorium.

All residents and businesses have been invited to join township officials for the celebration, but were asked to RSVP beforehand. Information is on the township website.

Refreshments will be served in the south building cafeteria after the meeting, according to the announcement sent out by the township last month.

"Township Leadership would like to give thanks to any and all volunteers, residents, businesses, and employees of Warren in recognition of New Jersey Monthly honoring Warren Township as the 2013 No. 1 Best Place to Live in Central Jersey and No. 1 in the State of New Jersey," the announcement said.

Warren Library Closing Monday

For those who forgot, the Warren Township branch of the Somerset County Library will be closed starting Monday into early December to allow for repainting and other improvements to the facility.

A sign near the municipal complex says the library will be closed through Dec. 7. That is a fairly good estimate of the time period, although library officials hope the building may open a little earlier, said Macela Dunham, adult programming and public relations director at the library.

During the time of the closure, library patrons must pick up and drop off materials at other branches, even those materials ordered online, Dunham said. Dunham said the usual book drop outside the Warren Library cannot be used, since it will not be checked by staff while the building is closed.

She added that the closest other branch of the county library system is the Watchung Library at 12 Stirling Road in Watchung.

However, she said that members of the county library system may bring or pick up materials at any branch of the county library system, including libraries nearby in Bridgewater, North Plainfield, Bound Brook and Somerville.

Some programs will continue at the Warren court room next door at the municipal complex during the time that the library is closed.

Warren Board of Education meeting on Monday

The Warren Township Board of Education also is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. on Monday at the Board of Education office at 213 Mount Horeb Road.

Among the topics on the agenda are a report on New Jersey ASK standardized testing scores from the 2012-13 school year, and also and update on the district's strategic plan.

Watchung Hills Regional High School fall play

Meanwhile, the public is invited to three scheduled performances of the fall play at Watchung Hills Regional High School. "Witness for the Prosecution" will be staged at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Friday at Saturday at the high school's performing arts center at 108 Stirling Road, Warren Township.
