Thousands of Bargains in 23 Departments: That's Some Rummage Sale

Trying to cut corners on your clothing bill, either for practical purposes or frivolous fun? Helping a grown child set up a household or filling in some gaps in your own? Looking for books to read, but don't want to pay full price or get on that long library wait list?

It's that time of year again: Join fellow bargain shoppers and yard-sale treasure hunters at the Visiting Nurse Association of Somerset Hills’ (VNA) Spring Rummage Sale, to be held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Far Hills Fairgrounds.

The fairgrounds located at the corner of US Route 202 and Peapack Road in Far Hills already are set up with large tents divided 23 departments of items painstakingly sorted, priced and (in the case of some electronics or household items) tested by hundreds of volunteers.

Hours to be open, accessible by vehicle or train

The rummage sale is scheduled to be open from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday; and from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. The sale is on rain or shine.

With the fairgrounds easily accessible by car or by NJ Transit's Gladstone rail line, the sale offers a fun and budget-friendly day trip appropriate for all ages.

Basic breakfast and lunch, including bagels, burgers, coffee and soft drinks, are sold along with refreshments for those who work up an appetite sifting through bargains and hoisting items to carry home.

What's available

From designer handbags and golf clubs to vintage jewelry and photography equipment, there’s something for everyone the sale, including some perpetual surprises.

The extensive quantity and variety of high quality merchandise — which had been donated in previous weeks by residents in the Somerset Hills and beyond — includes adult and children’s clothing and accessories, furniture, artwork, toys, sporting goods, fine and costume jewelry, antiques, kitchenware, appliances, lighting fixtures, books, cameras, vintage items, holiday decorations and more.

Goods have been meticulously sorted, checked for cleanliness and organized on racks and shelves.

Proceeds help those who are uninsured or underinsured for health care

Proceeds help the VNA — based in Basking Ridge and serving Somerset and Morris counties — to provide necessary home health and hospice care services to needy families, as well as other important wellness services not covered by any insurance. 

With a 100-year history, over 400 volunteers and donations collected from local residents, the VNA Rummage Sale is truly a community event that draws both shoppers — and volunteers — from throughout the region.

Parking and admission are free.  Credit cards now are accepted in all departments. 

Since the VNA is a health care provider, flu shots will be administered for individuals over 18 and free blood pressure screenings will be available. The cost per shot is $25 and is free for those covered under Medicare Part B.
