Woman Stable After Airlifted From I-78 Wreck

Hunterdon County resident was trapped for more than three hours before extricated.

A 32-year-old Hunterdon County woman who was trapped inside her vehicle for hours after it rolled over on Interstate 78 was listed in stable condition on Wednesday. Carly Johnstone, of Milford, was airlifted to Morristown Medical Center Tuesday night at about 6:40 p.m., after her vehicle crashed near mile-marker 34 of I-78 westbound more than three hours earlier, State Police said. The Liberty Corner Fire Co. extricated Johnstone from the vehicle, according to Liberty Corner Chief Marc Friedman. According to New Jersey State Police spokesman Sgt. Driver Extricated After Trapped for Hours In Crash

Accident closed westbound lanes of I-78 near the Warren-Bernards border Tuesday afternoon.

The driver of a vehicle that went off Interstate 78 near the Bernards-Warren border was trapped for hours Tuesday afternoon before finally extricated, State Police said. The vehicle was traveling westbound near mile-marker 34 when the accident occurred at about 3 p.m. The driver was finally extricated at about 6:30 p.m., State Police said. The westbound lanes had been partially closed during the extrication and for a medevac helicopter to land on the roadway for the injured victim, State Police said. Stewart it took 2 hours to rip the car apart, get her out, stable and the helicopter took off from the area at 5:30. I work in the office building right there...and the police helicopter was there at least by 3:30, but the fire trucks and rescue were their immediately.   more ›

Jack-knifed Truck Closes Eastbound I-78

Tractor-trailer strikes car, slides into center median.

All eastbound lanes were reported closed after the driver of a tractor-trailer lost control of the trailer while driving east on I-78, near the 37 mile marker, at about 3:15 p.m. Monday. State police said the trailer hit a passing car, and both came to a stop in the center median. The driver of the car was entrapped in the car until rescue crews from Watchung and Bernards were able to remove him. Though no serious injuies were reported, the driver was taken to Morristown Medical Center for treatment of injuries. Police said work to remove the trailer was still impacting traffic at 4:30 p.m.
