93-year-old woman killed at Upper Warren Way residence, police said.
Police and Somerset County Prosecutor's Office investigators are piecing together details after a 93-year-old woman was found dead at an Upper Warren Way residence when firefighters responded to a report of smoke inside the residence. Police identified the victim as Raisa Chertkova, 93. Police said investigators are contacting relatives of the victim, who may have been living at the property, although they weren't certain of the status of the victim. Investigators are also working to determine the cause of the smoke that filled the house, leading a home health care worker to call 9-1-1 upon her arrival at about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Further information will be released following the Prosecutor's Office investigation.

The Crime Stoppers of Somerset County Inc. is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information concerning the 1973 disappearance and murder of Bound Brook resident Joseph Dziowgo, according to Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey Soriano. According to Soriano, on May 10, 1973, Bridgewater Township Police received a report that then 25-year-old Dziowgo, living on Drake Street in Bound Brook, was missing. In May 2010, Soriano said, Somerset County Prosecutor's Office detectives spoke to Dziowgo's family about a DNA initiative through the University of North Texas. 25-year-old out on bail on previous burglary charges accused of breaking into Mundy Lane residence.
A 25-year-old man out on bail on burglary charges was arrested Thursday for breaking into a Warren Township residence earlier this week, the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office said. Timothy Whitmore, who claimed to be homeless, was charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree theft and possession of burglary tools, a disorderly persons offense. Jewelry, electronics and cash were stolen from a Mundy Lane residence on Monday, according to a statement released Friday by Prosecutor Geoffrey Soriano and Warren Township Police Chief Russell Leffert. A Warren man who the Somerset Prosecutor's Office said practiced laser hair removal in the township, as well as Watchung, without a license and who undercover detectives found with drugs such as Botox and codeine, has forfeited his right to practice medicine in New Jersey. Gilles Peyrot Des Gachons was sentenced on Friday to two years probation after he pleaded guilty on June 14 to charges of unlicensed practice of medicine, third degree; and two counts of possession with intent to distribute a prescription legend drug, third degree, Somerset Prosecutor Geffrey D. A 21-year-old Warren man was caught with about 1 pound of marijuana worth $5,500 in a township hotel parking lot Wednesday night, the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office said. Colin Heinle, 21, of Roberts Road, was charged with third-degree possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. A Watchung man said he had "homicidal" thoughts and threatened "suicide by cop," prompting a standoff with authorities that lasted more than five hours and evacuated nearby homes Sunday, the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office said. Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Somerset County SWAT team, locked down a Watchung neighborhood for several hours Sunday evening. UPDATE: Man's "suicide by cop" threat prompted five-hour standoff, the prosecutor's office said Monday. Access to Johnston Drive was blocked at Watchung Avenue, just a few blocks from Route 22, was blocked during the incident. Authorities left the scene and re-opened the area shortly before 8 p.m. Officers on the scene declined to comment on the activity. A spokesman for the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office could not immediately provide information on the situation. Patch will continue to update this story.

Two men have been charged with the distribution and possession of what authorities called a "large quantity" of heroin, after allegedly arranging to sell an undercover agent hundreds of bags of the substance in the Cliff Street area of Somerville on Tuesday afternoon. Jedrick Dennis, 32, of West Cliff Street in Somerville, and of Joseph Manna, 32, of Freedom Terrace in Easton, were arrested following an investigation by the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office and Somerville Police Department.
