Murdered Watchung Man Found in Irvington, Prosecutor Says
34-year-old found late Tuesday night inside minivan with multiple gunshot wounds.
A 34-year-old Watchung man was found shot to death inside a parked minivan in Irvington late Tuesday night, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said. Lamont F. Downing was found slumped down in the front seat of the vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds on the 100 block of Melrose Avenue Tuesday at about 10 p.m., Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray said in a statement. Downing was pronounced dead at the scene at about 10:30 p.m., Murray said. The Irvington Police Department and Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force are investigating the homicide, Murray said.
