Pop Warner Cheerleaders Take Third at National Competition

Squad heads to Disney World for second consecutive year.

For the second consecutive year, the Watchung Hills Pop Warner Jr. Midget competitive cheer squad participated in the National Cheer and Dance Championshipat the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Walt Disney World.  The Jr. Midget squad competed on Dec. 5 and brought home a third-place trophy in the Medium PW3 category going up against 13 other teams from across the nation.  They also received the highest score of the day in the jumps category ahead of 88 other teams. This season’s journey began on Oct. 20 with the Mountain Valley Conference competition at Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School where the Jr. Midget squad took first place in their division and advanced to the Central Jersey Qualifier in Trenton, on Nov. 11.  The Central …

Pop Warner Cheerleaders Returning to National Competition

Jr. Midget squad will participate at Disney World event.

For the second year in a row, Watchung Hills Pop Warner will be sending one of their cheer squads to the Pop Warner National competition in Disney World.  The Jr. Midget cheer squad earned the right to compete at the prestigious National Competition in Disney World on Dec. 5. Unrelenting dedication and a committed coaching staff combined with superior skill, teamwork and a desire to be the best, lead the Jr. Midget squad to a shot at Pop Warner glory.   Their journey began at the Mountain Valley Conference on Oct. 20th where they placed first in the Medium PW3 category. Varsity Cheerleaders' Clinic to Feature Local Champs

Competitive squad offers lessons, even while seeking its own crown.

A cheerleading clinic scheduled for Friday as a fundraising event for the Watchung Hills Varisity competition cheer team to travel to the national finals will include performances by younger—and already nationally-placed—cheerleaders. The team's Nationals Fundraising Cheer Clinic, slated for 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Watchung Hills Regional High School's Gym 4, will provide skills training by WHRHS Coach Elaine Perry. Perry will teach new sideline cheers, dance, motions, jumps and much more. Particiapnts will be divided into age-based groups to train on skills appropriate to their age and abilities. Members of Watchung Hills Pop Warner's Jr. Pee Wee and Midget cheerleading teams, and the Pee Wee football team, were reocgnized for their recent championship seasons at the Jan. 26 Township Committee meeting. Deputy Mayor Vic Sordillo and Township Committee Gary DiNardo presented certificates to each of the team members.

The Watchung Hills Pop Warner football and cheer program is excited to announce Warren Township’s recognition of our winning football and cheer teams. The Warren Township Committee would like to honor our Garden State Champion Pee Wee football team, our 2nd Place National finalist Jr. Pee Wee cheer team and our 3rd place National finalist Midget cheer team at their meeting on Thursday, Jan. 26th. Pop Warner Midgets Place Third at Nationals

Place in field of 16 from across country.

Watchung Hills Pop Warner's Midget cheerleading squad placed third out of a field of 16 teams at the National Cheer Championships, Friday.  The team followed the Jr. Pee Wee squad, which competed and took second-place honors Monday. The Midgets earned their way to the national competition in Orlando, Fla., after garnering top marks at the Oct. 30 state competition. They also took first place in the Oct. 15 Mountain Valley Conference competition.

Time For Midget Cheerleaders to Shine at Nationals

After debut of younger group, Pop Warner's second team in nationals set to compete.

Friday afternoon, a second group of Watchung Hills-area cheerleaders will be on stage at the National Cheer Championship in Orlando, Fla. The Midget squad, coached by Cindy Braunstein and Kris Trimble, follows the debut of Watchung Hills Pop Warner cheerleaders at the national competition by the Jr. Pee Wee squad (they took second-place honors in their division competition Monday). The Midgets qualified for the national after dominating conference and state competitions in October, as well as taking first place at the Eastern Regional Competition Nov. 12. Check back for updates after the team competes at about 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Jr. Pee Wee Squad Second at National Finals

First ever appearance for Watchung Hills Pop Warner group.

Watchung Hills Pop Warner's Jr. Pee Wee cheerleading squad competed against 17 teams from across the country Monday morning at the National Cheer Championships, and came away with the second place trophy. It was the first time any of the WHPWA cheer teams have competed at national event. "The girls were just amazing—they couldn't have done any better," head coach Angela Salermo said. "They worked really hard for this." "They had an awesome performance," WHPWA Cheer Commissioner Lori Butrico said, after watching them perfrom on a live stream. Help Cheerleaders Journey to National Competition by Joining Fundraiser

Thursday night event at Uproot aimed at helping cover travel costs for local cheerleaders.

Is the taste of success fruity, leaving a toasty flavor? Perhaps you prefer yours sweet and sparkling, like a fine champagne. For two squads of the Watchung Hills Pop Warner cheerleaders, this year's success has been pretty sweet—the Midgets and Jr. Pee Wees will be traveling to Florida to compete in the National Cheer Competition at Dinsey World—and you can help toast the groups at a special fundraiser Thursday at Uproot Restaurant. The event will raise funds to help defray the teams' travel expenses. Uproot will host the wine and cheese tasting event from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., serving up "an amazing night of meats, cheeses, and, of course, wine," according to organizers. Pop Warner Cheerleaders Heading to Nationals

Not one, but two Pop Warner cheer squads earned the right to compete at the prestigious National Competition in Disney World Dec. 5 – 9th. Unrelenting dedication and a committed coaching staff combined with superior skill, teamwork and a desire to be the best, lead the Jr. Pee Wee and Midget cheer squads to a shot at Pop Warner glory. The Jr. Pee Wee’s incredible journey began at the Mountain Valley Conference (MVC) competition in Bridgewater on Oct. 15th with a first place finish. They competed against four other squads, beating out the Montgomery Wildcats, who placed second and the Hillsborough Dukes, who came in third.
