Warriors rally to overcome 10-point deficit to upend Hillsborough.

The Watchung Hills Regional girls basketball team overcame an early deficit to defeat Hillsborough, 43-41 Tuesday night. Overview Powered by senior forward Kristina Vangeli, the Raiders run up an early lead in the first period, and held on through the second. But the Warriors stepped up with a full-court defense and stymied Vangeli in the third, giving them a chance to catch up. With 56 seconds left in the third, the Warriors grabbed the lead for the first time in the game. The fourth proved to be a battle for control, but when the Raiders got into free throw trouble, the Warriors capitalized on the opportunity to take control and win the game. The Watchung Hills High School girl basketball won their second game in a row as the defeated Hillsborough High School on the road Thursday evening.   1st 2nd 3rd 4th Final Watchung Hills (2-1) 12 10 13 6 41 Hillsborough (1-2) 12 4 7 7 30 OVERVIEW Junior guard Hannah Yuhl hit two 3-pointers early in the second quarter to propel the Warriors into the lead. Yuhl had five 3-pointers on the night to lead the Warriors with 16 points. After allowing 12 points in the first quarter the defense clamped down on the Raiders scorers in the decisive second quarter, limiting the home team two field goals for four points. The NBA has settled its contract dispute and games are about to start and that means that basketball is about to start at Watchung Hills Regional High School. As opening day approaches, we're taking a look at each of the teams as they ready for competition. Today, we take a look at the Raiders girls’ basketball team. OVERVIEW With four of its starting five from last year gone to graduation there will be some new faces in the starting lineup when the Lady Warriors open their season against North Hunterdon Friday.
