UPDATE: Watchung Water Main Project Set to Begin

Prepare for traffic problems on Mountain Boulevard.

UPDATE: The Somerset County Road Department announced work on Watchung's water main replacement along Mountain Boulevard will begin this week. On Wednesday, the county's project status list added: "Beginning on or about September 10, 2012 and continuing until approximately November 15, 2012, New Jersey American Water will begin work to replace a water main on a section of Mountain Boulevard, from Brookdale Road to Wetumpka Lane. Construction will begin at 9:00 am and continue until 4:00 pm, Mondays through Fridays. Some Saturday construction may be necessary. Although Mountain Boulevard will not be closed, be prepared that traffic will be reduced to one lane, with alternating traffic directed by the Police Department." The work is expected…

Water Restrictions Set During Main Repair

Scotch Plains water main project expected to be finished in two to three days.

New Jersey American Water Co. is asking area residents to go easy on water use for the next few days, as the company replaces a 48-inch water main in Scotch Plains.  The pipe burst yesterday and crews have been working in Scotch Plains, along Portland Avenue near Watchung View Place, to replace the line. The compnay estimates it will take 48 to 72 hours to complete the project. The company also says customers throughout the area served by the pipeline—which includes North Plainfield, Warren and Watchung—can expect low water pressure as the work in being completed. The break follows a series of breaks in Green Brook, Watchung and Warren plaguing the area. Company spokesman Richard Barnes said the local lines involved are older, cast iron …

Update: Mountain Boulevard Closed Due to Water Main Break

Update: Somerset County has closed Mountain Boulevard from the Watchung Circle to Anderson Road until 6 p.m., as crews continue to work on the water main break. Traffic in the area will be detoured to Stirling Road and Washington Rock Road. Many Warren families woke Thursday to find the water supply drained, after a 7 a.m. break in the water line in Watchung limited supplies to the area. The break is reported to be near Mountain Boulevard and Washington Rock Road, cutting water service to an estimated 50 homes east of the break but limiting flow to hundreds more, according to Richard Barnes, external affairs manager for New Jersey American Water.
