The annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony at Watchung Hills Regional offers a chance for students to praise former teachers, and teachers to praise former students; sometimes, former classmates can share praise among each other. And while the recent ceremony including all of these, it was highlighted by an emotional recalling of inductee Matthew Kantor's accomplishments and honors by his father. The Township Committee Thursday approved a 2013 municipal budget that raised the property taxes for an owner of a home assessed at the township average by $208. New Superintendent, School Rankings Top Warren News This Week

Aquatic center vote, bones and walks in Warren also make headlines.

Elizabeth Jewett, currently working in the Verona School District, will be the next superintendent of the Watchung Hills Regional district. Who do you trust? Newsweek gives WHRHS a ranking; U.S. News not so much. The controversial proposal for Emerson Lane had drawn crowds to Warren planning board meetings in 2011, before the township Sewerage Authority said the center could not connect to Warren's sewer lines. After two years of wrangling in Berkeley Heights, residents there said the planned center couldn't connect there, either. A combined art and genocide studies project at Watchung Hills Regional produced a number of "bones" to include in an exhibit in Washington, DC. School's Hall of Fame, Track Team Make Warren Headlines

Test drives, 'Tweens' night and cicadas also in the news this week.

Class of 2008 alum Matthew Kantor is one of eight inductees into the school's Hall of Fame this year.  Student Eric Binder submitted this recap of Tuesday's tri-meet, where many members of the team achieved personal best scores on the way to winning the meet. Make a note to stop by Watchung Hills Regional on May 18 to take a spin in a new Ford (no, not a Ford GT...sorry)—you'll be helping the school's All Student Council in their fundraising. They're sure to be the treat everyone will be talking about this summer—you can almost hear "Forest Gump's" Bubba droning, "Cicada salad, cicada souffle, cicada scampi..." What is the most delicious day at Warren Middle School? Easily, the day of the "Iron Chef" contest. Readers are enjoying our new feature, presented in collaboration with Zillow.com. Bonnie Quigley was honored by the school's staff. The school's week-long program built around Young Author's Day concluded with special presentations by David Adler and Judith Natelli McLaughlin.  The interviews have been completed...a decision is likely to be announced soon.

Bomb Scare, Burglar on Tape, 'Action for Distraction' Top Regional News

Basilone Bowl and Ridge High's top schools' ranking also make headlines.

Writing on a bathroom wall at Woodmont Elementary School in Montville prompted a bomb scare and an evacuation of the school Wednesday morning while police and a bomb squad checked the building to be sure it was safe, police and school officials said. No bomb was found. Police have released a slideshow of an individual they are trying to identify who was on Finley Lane in Wayne at the time a home on that street was burglarized April 20. Zach Rice of Long Valley, who suffers from avascular necrosis of the hip, has joined forces with Goryeb Children's Hospital to raise funds for gaming systems for patients. Marathon Runners, Referendum Planning Make Warren Headlines

Top tax payers, science fair and injured motorcyclist also make the news this week.

With help from our Facebook friends helped track down local participants in the Monday's marathon, including Joseph Rotondo, who vowed to return despite the bombing.  The board met Monday to review plans ahead of a vote expected May 6 on whether or not to proceed. Almost all of Warren's largest property tax payers are office developments. Oh, the things you'll learn at the science fair...like how many germs are on the gym floor. Warren resident Jeff Gutkin, 51, was taken to Somerset Medical Center after the motorcycle he was riding was hit by a driver who ignored the traffic light. A Top Chef and the Easter Bunny Make Warren Headlines

It wasn't a surprise for the restaurant's customers to learn Head Chef Mark Farro is one of the state's best. With more than 100 kids joining the egg hunt and bike/wagon parade, the township's Easter events were a big hit.  Board members are considering an $11.5 million referendum to take care of a number of major problem—attend the meeting Monday to learn more (or check back on Patch!). $1,500 in cash and pieces of jewelry reported stolen. Tom DiGanci and Tina Cecala highlight this year's class of inductees. For more than 15 years, Warren has been a leader in teaching children how to protect themselves. A Stirling Road business reported this incident of criminal mischief, an unusual occurrance in Warren.

New Burger Joint, Indictments Top News This Week

Business students, Governor's School nominees and the June primary also in the news.

Turf and Surf Burgers uses family secrets to create savory new ways to enjoy burgers. Patrick Deck has been held on the charges since August; with the indictments, a trial can be scheduled. Watchung Hills Regional helped investigators bring the charges, which the executives admitted to this week.  The Watchung Hills Regional chapter of Future Business Leaders of America took part in the state competition. The prestigious school nominations include the possibility of advanced study in engineering, technology or science for the students.  She'll win the GOP nomination and be set for November's general election.

Theft Charge, 'Dapper Bandit' Top Warren Headlines This Week

Police wrapped up a burglary investigation quickly in filing the charge. David Carroccia took a plea agreement with Morris County prosecutors. The latest addition to our gallery featured a photo from the residents' visit to Watchung Hills Regional.  What do you think is the busiest?  Executoves at Birdsall Services accused of skirting pay-to-play regulations. Members of the Warren Blue Ridge Sportsmen's Club have been busy around town. Oh, and the next superintendent needs to also be an expert in curriculum planning...and a few other things.

Gerald Mobus, Shaved Seventh-Grade Heads in the News This Week

Math team, scrap metal theft and more also in the news this week.

The shocking news of Watchung Mayor Gerald Mobus' death Sunday opened the week with sadness. Thousands paid their respects at Wednesday's visitation and Thursday's memorial service. Jack Horan convinced a group of his friends to meet him at Sports Clips last week.  Will DiGrande, Sophie Feldman, Karthik Irakam and Sean Wang topped nearly everyone in the competition. Warren police said they were found at Picut Manufacturing. And two named first chair after the auditions. Members said it seemed the township was being punished for being so frugal all these years. Students studied and then dressed the parts. Longtime Planning Board and Republican Club member dies at age 88.
