Cunningham's 3 TDs Propel Watchung Hills Over Plainfield

Warriors hold off second-half rally, improve to 4-1 on the season.

The Watchung Hills football team was leading Plainfield 21-0 at halftime on Friday night — but then found out that the Cardinals weren't going to take defeat lying down as the two teams headed back onto the football field for the third quarter.

During the first half of the game, Warrior Ryan Cunningham scored two touchdowns, the second in the last few minutes before the first half ended, with Anthony Carbajal adding a point on the kick.

Warrior Joe Giacomo scored the game's first TD. Giacomo also threw a 2-point conversion to Jake Bloom.

But after returning onto the field against a scoreless Plainfield for the second half, the Warriors found themselves in a battle against a much-toughened squad.

Plainfield's team scored two third quarter touchdowns, and the visiting team had raised the score to 21-12 by the end of that quarter.

Cunningham then added his third TD of the evening in the fourth quarter to lead the Warriors to a final score victory of 27-12.

The Warriors are now 4-1 for the season.
